I first learnt NLP in Japanese.
At the same time I also read NLP books and watched DVDs of Richard Bandler,Milton Erickson and others in the original English.
I even had a chance to work with Richard in person
when he invited me on stage for a demonstration.
Of course, the basic structures of NLP are the same in any language.
But differences in nuance and effect between English and Japanese are sometimes very important.
